Code of Conduct
BRASIL FURFEST is a space for people of all ages. Everyone — attendees, speakers, volunteers, staff, exhibitors and sponsors — must treat others with respect, at the Event, on the Website and on the online channels connected to it.
1. What we expect from everyone
- Respect different opinions, backgrounds, beliefs, bodies, identities and abilities.
- Use language appropriate for an environment with children.
- Ask permission before photographing or filming someone up close, and always before photographing minors who are not yours.
- Follow the instructions of the staff, security and emergency brigade.
- Take care of the space, the materials and the trash.
- Let the staff know if you see someone in danger, lost or being disrespected.
2. What is not tolerated
- Harassment of any kind: offensive comments, intimidation, stalking, physical contact without consent or unwanted sexual attention.
- Discrimination based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, appearance or origin.
- Bullying and cyberbullying, including in the Event’s groups and social networks (Brazilian Law 14.811/2024).
- Sexual, violent or content inappropriate for minors in talks, booths, t-shirts or materials.
- Selling, offering or providing alcoholic drinks, cigarettes or vapes to anyone under 18 (ECA, art. 243).
- Carrying weapons, dangerous objects or illegal substances.
- Recording or sharing images of other people to expose or ridicule them, or without permission.
3. Rules for protecting children and adolescents
These rules apply to all adults at the Event, especially staff, volunteers and speakers.
- No adult staff member is ever alone with a minor in a closed place or out of sight of other people. Activities with minors have at least two responsible adults.
- Adults do not ask minors for personal contact details (phone, social networks) or hold private message conversations with them.
- Physical contact with minors is limited to what is necessary for safety or first aid.
- At the end of activities and at the meeting point, minors are only handed over to the guardian or adult authorized in the registration, after checking their ID.
- A lost child is taken to the help desk and is never taken out of the Event by anyone else. The guardian is called over the sound system or through the registered contact.
- Staff and volunteers who work directly with minors go through a background check and training before the Event.
- Any suspicion of abuse, exploitation or mistreatment is immediately reported to the organizers and the authorities: Conselho Tutelar (child protection council), Dial 100 (Disque 100) or the Police (190).
4. How to report
If you suffer or witness something that violates this Code:
- At the Event: look for any staff member or the help desk.
- At any time: or [email protected].
- Reports can be anonymous. Children and adolescents can also report directly to the staff.
Every report is handled confidentially, respectfully and without retaliation against whoever reports it. In a situation of immediate risk, call 190 (Police) or 192 (SAMU ambulance).
5. Consequences
Depending on the severity, the Organizer may:
- Warn the person.
- Ask them to leave an activity or the Event, without a refund.
- Ban them from future editions.
- Report the incident to the competent authorities.
Legal guardians are always notified whenever a minor is involved, as a victim or as the perpetrator. When the perpetrator is a minor, the measure takes their age into account and is educational in nature, always with the guardian’s involvement.
