What is furry
The furry fandom is a community of people who enjoy creating art, stories and original characters that mix human and animal traits — just like in many classic cartoons and movies, including famous Walt Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, where animals talk, have emotions and live like people.
These people are called furries. Many of them create their own characters, called fursonas, which work as creative avatars — a form of artistic expression, like creating a character for a story, an RPG or a drawing.

The community is made up mainly of artists, animation fans, writers, gamers and creative people in general. Not everyone gets involved the same way — each person takes part however they like.
Some furries like to wear costumes called fursuits, which resemble mascots or cosplay and are usually custom-made to represent their characters. This is optional and represents only part of the community.
Like other hobbies (such as cosplay, anime or comics), the furry fandom also organizes meetups and conventions. At these events, people socialize, take part in activities, watch performances and share their artwork in a safe and welcoming environment.
In Brazil, this community started to grow with the internet in the 1990s and today brings together thousands of people, with events like Brasil FurFest, which takes place every year and welcomes attendees from all over the country.
